Perimeter Intrusion

Security Fencing - Case Studies

US Military – Perimeter protection of a sensitive base with a perimeter in excess of 13 miles. The site was remote, with no power available along the perimeter, numerous cameras to interface to, and inhospitable environmental conditions. Client Quote: “Numerous proposals were evaluated, and by far, FFT Secure Fence™ was the best proposal, best value, and as it turned out, was the lowest price. We were extremely impressed with FFT’s performance, timeliness, professionalism, as well as follow-ups after the work was completed. The system is the best we have seen or heard of to date. Every facet of the system met and/or exceeded our expectations”. FFT Secure Fence™ is a perfect fit, and has operated very successfully since installation.

US Border Patrol – Intrusion detection and border penetration detection was required for a section with a very unusual fence construction, and there was no power available in this particular region. They required a system with variable zone lengths that would interface to lighting controls, cameras, and also provide wireless in-vehicle notification and location of border incursions in real time. FFT was selected, as these were all standard features within Secure Fence.

US Government – intrusion detection was required at a number of anonymous installations with a variety of different fence structures ranging from chainmesh to steel pickets on a single site. Getting a single system to handle all of the differing fence types was the challenge, a challenge easily managed by FFT Secure Fence™ with its software zoning.

Department of Homeland Security, USA – perimeter protection of a highly sensitive facility, requiring unparalleled levels of detection with the lowest possible nuisance alarms. Seamless integration with cameras and an existing high level security management system was mandatory. FFT Secure Fence™ was deployed and has been performing effectively since.

British Petroleum – Perimeter protection of a major new coastal refinery complex in Europe. The specification called for a single, intrinsically safe perimeter intrusion detection system to protect this strategically important facility with an 8km (5 mile) perimeter. The system had to be able to handle temperature extremes and extremely strong coastal winds without false alarming. FFT Secure Fence™ was selected, and had to pass BP’s rigorous factory acceptance testing prior to deployment, which it did without a single exception.

A USA Petroleum company required a high level security system including perimeter protection, closed circuit TV surveillance, access control, lighting control and incident recording for one of their refineries located on a headland that is exposed to salt spray and high winds. The site was designated as critical infrastructure by the US Government due to the importance of its product and potential appeal of the site to terrorist activity. Client Quote: “FFT’s Secure Fence system was selected because it offers the highest levels of detection, it locates the point of intrusion, is simple to install, is cost effective, is intrinsically safe and has an architecture that facilitated the integration of the CCTV systems, lighting controls and other sub-systems.
FFT’s Central Alarm Monitoring System (CAMS) was used as the primary control point for CCTV activation, lighting control and threat level management. FFT also played an integral part in assisting the other component manufacturers with the integration of their systems to provide a robust, flexible and easy to operate security system. The FFT Secure Fence™ system has proven to be highly effective in this demanding application”.

NATO Europe – Required a state of the art covert buried intrusion detection system that was completely undetectable around the perimeter of a facility. FFT Secure Fence Below Ground System (BGS) was selected to protect this critical installation.

A major telecommunications carrier in Japan required a system to protect the perimeters of critical repeater stations and cell phone nodes scattered throughout the country. FFT Secure Fence™ was tested extensively over a period of several months in an attempt to find any deficiencies or weak points in the system. None were found, and Secure Fence was subsequently selected ahead of others, including locally manufactured systems.

A major Asian government was looking for a system to protect a section of their border fences. Temperatures ranged from below freezing, with driving wind and rain. Fence construction was unusual in that it was entirely made of barbed wire, rendering conventional intrusion detection systems useless either through a lack of sensitivity or continual false alarms. The customer was sceptical of the claims made for the FFT Secure Fence™ system, so it was carefully evaluated and tested before being deployed. It has been operational since 2003, providing exception levels of detection whilst minimising false and nuisance alarms due to the signal processing employed.

Australian Attorney General’s Office – were searching for a covert perimeter intrusion detection system for installation on to decorative palisade fences surrounding several Government facilities. The system selected had to carry Government T4 approvals to be considered. FFT Secure Fence™ was selected and installed at several sites during 2000. The systems have performed very effectively since installation.

Australian Department of Defence – installed FFT Secure Fence™ at a number of sites ranging from Military Training bases to Military Airfields, in extremely hostile environments. Direct sunlight temperatures of almost 70°C (155°F) experienced on the fence line rendered systems with electronics installed on the fence ineffective, even causing the sensor cables of some systems to completely lose sensitivity. Secure Fence has no electronics in the field, and a sensor cable specifically designed to cope with these sorts of extremes.

Chubb Electronic Security – has selected and integrated FFT Secure Fence™ systems at a number of sites, including military bases, airfields, and government facilities. The reasons for selecting Secure Fence being both the performance and reliability of the system, and its ease of integration to existing Chubb security management systems.

Duke Energy – This leading electricity supplier had problems with trespassing and vandalism in power substations. They needed a perimeter intrusion detection system, but one that was completely unaffected by the high levels of EMI present. FFT Secure Fence™ was installed at several sites during 2001, and have been operating effectively since.

Singapore Ministry of Defence – Perimeter protection of a number of military bases and airfields. After trialling a range of other perimeter intrusion detection systems, extensive testing was carried out on Secure Fence. It was subsequently found to outperform other systems and had a significant price advantage for the long distances found at these types of installations. Secure Fence was selected with the first installation in 2001. Since then more than 28 systems have been installed to date.

Kazakhstan Government – Required a covert perimeter intrusion detection system for an important Government residence. The system had to work in temperatures as low as -40 degrees centigrade, and be undetectable. FFT Secure Fence™ BGS was chosen and installed in 2004.

Egypt LNG – A major Middle Eastern LNG supplier needed an intrinsically safe perimeter intrusion detection system around their newly commissioned LNG plant. The facility was located on the coast and subject to extremely high summer temperatures, combined with strong coastal winds. After examining all possible systems closely, FFT Secure Fence was chosen based on its intrinsic safety - even in explosive LNG type environments – combined with its well proven and documented performance in similar installations around the world.
